By Air
By Air there are two Major Commercial Airports for travel to in Miami , Miami International and Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport. Ft. Lauderdale Airport is farther away from Downtown Miami and Miami Beach but ticket prices tend to be cheaper flying into Ft. Lauderdale . But if you are not going to rent a car a taxi from Ft. Lauderdale to Downtown Miami or Miami Beach can run up to around $65. Miami International Airport is used more as an International Gateway.

Both Ft. Lauderdale and Miami International Airports are busy ones. Travelers will find Ft. Lauderdale very busy for domestic flights and sometimes a bit of a hassle with all the Air Traffic delays. Travelers will find Miami an easy airport to fly through domestically, but it is very busy and sometimes a hassles to fly through it internationally.

Ft. Lauderdale is a new modern facility; Miami on the other hand is much older and will seem a bit stuffy with the massive amount of construction going on in Miami International. Another option if traveling to Broward County would be Palm Beach International Airport . However Palm Beach is more than 50 miles from Miami and is not recommended especially if you are not renting a car.

Miami International Airport is known as the Gateway to the Americas and is the third largest International Gateway in the United States , and largest airport for international cargo. Going through Miami International will give you a glimpse of what the city will be like, crowded, lots of construction and tons of diversity. American Airlines is the largest carrier in Miami International Airport with its South American and Central American hub in Miami .

Many Airlines fly to Miami International and Ft. Lauderdale International.
Some airlines that fly to Miami International are: American Airlines, Untied Airlines, Northwest Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Airlines, US Airways, Air Tran, American West, Alaska Airlines, Iberia, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Swiss Air, Air France, Finair, LTU, Lufthansa, Alitalia,Martinair, Aeromexico, Mexicana, Air Jamaica, BWIA, Cayman Airways, Taca, Copa, Aerolines Argentinas, Tam, Varig, Avianca, Lan Chile, Bahamasair, El Al, LAB and Air Canada. Theses are just some airlines which fly to Miami International.

Some Airlines which fly to Ft. Lauderdale.
Delta Airlines, Northwest Airlines, Continental Airlines, US Airways, American Airlines, United Airlines/Ted, Delta Song, Jet Blue, Southwest, American West, Air Tran, Frontier,  USA 3000,  West Jet, Midwest Airlines, Bahamasair, Avianca, Air Canada, Air Transat, Cayman Airways, Pan Am, Skyservice, Spirit Airlines, Avianca, Chalks Ocean Airways, Cape Air, Florida Coastal Airlines.

Traveling from either airport to your final destination is easy. Taxi cabs are very easy to get at either airport. Also major car rental companies are at both airports. But driving in Miami is a different experiance and its a bit difficult. Drivers are all different and not exactly the best in the country. Also you will find lots of traffic 24/7 depending on the area. Accidents and construction will cause traffic jams anything time of the day and any day of the week. Week day rush hour will also give you massive delays on the Miami streets and highways.

Driving to Miami
Driving to Miami is very simple. Driving in Miami is not.
I-75 will take you to Ft. Lauderdale where you can connect to I-95 or US-1.
I-95 will take you right into Downtown Miami. I-195 will take you into Miami Beach. US-1 will take you through the local parts of Miami into Downtown and than into Carol Gables and South Miami. US-1 will continue on until Key West.
The Florida Turnpike also goes into Miami.

By Rail
There is only one way of getting to Miami by rail which is Amtrack. Amtrack has daily trips to Miami.
If you want to take your own car from the Northeast but dont want to drive to much you can take the auto train from Washington D.C. to Sanford FL which is right by Orlando FL and than take the Florida Turnpike right into Miami. The auto train will carry you car and you from DC-Sanford.
